Meet Our Principal
Derrick Hugue was born and raised in Miami, FL. He began his career in CSA schools in 2012, serving as an Art Teacher at Summerville Advantage Academy. He went on to teach Language Arts, World and US History at Palm Glades Preparatory Academy in 2013. Mr. Hugue has served as Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at West Broward Academy, and is now serves as Principal. Mr. Hugue played an integral role in the school’s turnaround in both culture and performance. Mr. Hugue holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. He is equipped with a compassionate heart and undeniable desire to see families and children in the community achieve success. Mr. Hugue is not only a School Principal, but he also serves in multiple capacities including community-minded activist, youth ministry leader, skilled playwright, and entrepreneur.

The mission of West Broward Academy is to engage students and promote high achievement with a well-rounded elementary and middle school education, through a challenging program, focused on mathematics and science using innovative, reform-based instructional methods in a stimulating and nurturing environment that fosters maximum student achievement.

West Broward Academy is a Cognia accredited educational institution. Accreditation through Cognia indicates that West Broward Academy has met rigorous, research- based standards of educational excellence to ensure the education program offered at West Broward Academy meets the needs of learners through proficiency in Leadership Capacity, Learning Capacity, and Resource Capacity. Using these standards, West Broward Academy targets areas in each domain for continuous improvement in creating student success.
