Meet Our Principal

Will Pickens is entering his 12th year in education. He started his teaching career in Charlotte, North Carolina, teaching at the elementary level.  After a strong desire to fully support students academically, socially, and emotionally, Will became an elementary and high school counselor in Columbia, South Carolina. During this time, he was appointed the Midlands Regional Chair for the Palmetto School Counselor Association. In this role, Will presented at local and state conferences and wrote articles for the association. Will entered into school leadership in Cleveland, Ohio and served as a high school principal resident and then went on to become a K-8 associate principal, and middle school principal. Most recently, Will served as a K-8 principal in Detroit, Michigan. In all, Will has served as an educator in North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, and Michigan. Will’s leadership philosophy is simple- lead by serving others.

Will is an avid reader, workout enthusiast, people lover, and was born in Pahokee, Florida. He has a Bachelors in Political Science, Masters in Education, Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, and is currently writing his dissertation for his doctorate degree in educational leadership, where he is expected to finish in May, 2020.

The Mission of West Broward Academy is to engage students and promote high achievement with a well-rounded elementary and middle school education, through a challenging program, focused on mathematics and science using innovative, reform-based instructional methods in a stimulating and nurturing environment that fosters maximum student achievement. 

Educational Philosophy

West Broward Academy recognizes that all children are unique; that each learns in a different style and at a different pace. We strive to meet the individual needs of every student through a variety of programs and differentiated instructional techniques designed to prepare the child for success.

WBA offers a safe, secure, private school environment with a program that provides a quality and challenging academic education that includes:

We offer a balanced and flexible curriculum that provides a firm foundation in the core disciplines with enrichment in Math and Science and the infusion of technology throughout the school day.
